Arsenal push for Benjamin Sesko transfer as Mikel Arteta’s side search for Kai Havertz’s back-up
It could be a decisive summer for Arsenal as they try to bolster their ranks for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Needing reinforcements in several departments, Arsenal’s priority signing will be a proven striker as Mikel Arteta’s side pushes for the Champions League and Premier League title. While several names are linked with a move, RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is now a top priority for the North London side. Arsenal are likely to move for the Slovenian striker who presents great value at 20.
Arsenal to target Benjamin Sesko
With Gabriel Jesus misfiring and Eddie Nketiah unable to cope with the pressure of a back-up striker, the Gunners are desperately struggling for goals if either Bukayo Saka or Kai Havertz are unavailable. Sesko presents a great value for the side having burst on the scene for Leipzig in the first season in the Bundesliga. In 31 matches RB Leipzig he scored 14 goals and provided a great return to the side having initially replaced Timo Werner at the club.
On the flip side, Jesus and Nketiah scored a combined nine goals in 54 matches between them in the Premier League. The stats directly suggest that neither Jesus nor Nketiah could be a good back-up option for Arsenal if they are to challenge for trophies on multiple fronts.
Compared to Erling Haaland’s understudy Julian Alvarez at Manchester City, Arsenal will need a feasible solution and Sesko comes at the right value for the squad. His $50 million asking price should not be a worry for Arsenal and could help them bolster the depth in the squad. Havertz will also have a good understudy at the club who was alone handling the role of the first-choice striker for the side.
In the entire 2023-24 season, the Germany international missed only one match in the Premier League and scored 13 goals while also providing important assists for the side.
Chelsea also in Sesko hunt
Sesko has also been linked with a move to Chelsea as they too are searching for a capable understudy for Nicolas Jackson at the club. Chelsea are reportedly ready to part ways with Armando Broja who does not have a future at the club according to some reports. He could be a make-weight striker and could help fund the amount RB Leipzig could demand.
With Slovenia playing against England in the Euro 2024, English fans and media will have a better idea of Sesko and why he is so highly rated by the Premier League clubs.
