Arsenal vs PSG Preview

  • Tournament: UEFA Champions League.
  • Date: Tuesday, October 1.
  • Time: 7:00 PM GMT.
  • Venue: Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal vs PSG will be the third fixture of Round 2 in this year’s UEFA Champions League as both teams will look for a win to help their cause in the new extended league format.

The Gunners will enter this game on the back of a decent run of form as they remain unbeaten across competitions to start off their season. They have already played the likes of Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham away from home and have secured four wins and two draws in six Premier League games so far. Their last UCL outing was a goalless draw away to Atalanta and they will look to do one better in their next one.

The Parisians will enter this game on the back of a similar strong run of form as they are the runaway leaders in Ligue 1. They have won all but one of their six games domestically, with the exception being a 1-1 draw against Reims. The free-scoring side also had a tough outing against Girona in their first UCL fixture as they secured a narrow 1-0 win at home. They will look to keep that going as they gear up to visit London.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the team news from both camps.

Arsenal Team News

Mikel Arteta and his Gunners are coming off a last-gasp 4-2 win against Leicester City in the PL as they scored two stoppage-time goals. Riccardo Calafiori was seen leaving the Emirates in a brace after that match but reports have confirmed those were minor precautions and he should be available. Captain Martin Odegaard and new signing Mikel Merino are also nearing their return, but PSG may come too soon for them.

Luis Enrique and his side, on the other hand, will have a much longer injury list to deal with as key players remain sidelined. Goalkeeper and captain Gianluigi Donnarumma will face a spell on the sidelines, while Presnel Kimpembe, Marco Asensio, Lucas Hernandez and Goncalo Ramos are also out of contention for the next one.

Key Players to Watch

Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal)

The Brazilian forward has a knack of scoring in key Champions League matches as he has shown so many times in his career so far. Jesus thrives on the big occasion and his manager and teammates will look to him to produce the goods when Arsenal host PSG. He has made 47 appearances in the competition overall, scoring 24 goals and providing eight assists.

Bradley Barcola (PSG)

Barcola has made a red-hot start to the Ligue 1 campaign for the Parisians, netting six times in as many appearances so far. He also played a game in the UCL but is yet to open his account there. Enrique and his PSG squad will hope Barcola can replicate his domestic form in Europe’s premier club competition.

Arsenal vs PSG Prediction

Going by both teams’ recent form and their past encounters, there is very little to separate the two sides and it could all boil down to a decisive moment or two. Arsenal will have the home advantage but PSG are a formidable opposition so this could end in a score draw.
