Arne Slot addresses Liverpool’s lack of transfer market activity – “Waiting for the right ones to sign”
The ongoing summer transfer window leading up to the 2024-2025 Premier League season has been quite dry for Liverpool so far. While they have managed to keep some of their big players onboard till now, any new incoming hasn’t materialized for the Merseyside club.
The Reds have been linked with several top players as such – Pedro Neto and Rayan Ait-Nouri (from Wolves); Anthony Gordon (from Newcastle United); Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (from Napoli), and a few others. But any official talks towards their interest in signing any of these players aren’t reported to be in any sort of advanced stages as of now.
Recently the Reds’ new boss Arne Slot, had been inquired about the club’s lack of activity in the transfer window so far. The Dutch manager reportedly stated –
“The first aim is to work with these players (available). Of Course, it’s a disadvantage that many of them aren’t here yet (reasoning the Euro and Copa America)”. “I have inherited a team which is really good so it’s not so easy to find players of the same standard or even higher, especially as those ones need to be available. Richard, more than me, is working really hard on that and keeps me updated. If there’s any news on that we will come to you”.
On his hopes of signing new players as the window approaches its end, Slot asserted –
“We already have a good team I am happy with, but it would be a surprise for all of us if we don’t bring any players in. That will probably happen in the end but for now, we are waiting for our players to come back and waiting for the right ones to sign”.
It can be inferred from his statements that while the 45-year-old is contended with what he has at Liverpool, he wishes that the club would bring in some new faces before the window shuts, to give him enough fire-power to compete with teams like Man City and Arsenal for the title.
