Growing up in Brazil, a country renowned for its footballing prowess, Antony’s introduction to the sport was inevitable. From a young age, his innate talent stood out on the dusty futsal courts, catching the attention of local scouts. The streets of his hometown became the proving ground where he honed the skills that would later propel him to the global football stage. Like many famous players, Antony took an early interest in football. His aim was to play professional football in front of an enthusiastic crowd in a stadium.

Sao Paulo (2010-2020)

In 2010, Matheus enrolled in the Sao Paulo Academy, where he started his football career. Antony was ten years old at the time. The 22-year-old developed his abilities while participating in the juvenile squads of Sao Paulo. When he assisted the team in winning Japan’s J League Challenge competition in 2018, it became his most noteworthy accomplishment.

On September 26, 2018, the 22-year-old was promoted to the senior team together with Helinho and Igor Gomes after his outstanding performance. With his childhood club, Antony inked a deal that runs through September 2023.

Ajax (2020-22)

Antony and Ajax reached a five-year deal on February 23, 2020, with a £13 million initial pay and a potential raise to £18.2 million. He made his club debut on September 13, 2020, when he scored the game-winning goal in an away victory over Sparta Rotterdam. On October 27, 2020, he played in his first-ever UEFA Champions League match—a 2-2 tie against Atalanta. After a collision with Ruslan Malinovskyi in the ninetieth minute, he exited the pitch. 

In a 2-1 away win over Midtjylland on November 3, 2020, he scored his first goal in the competition. The footballer had another incredible season in 2021–2022, proving his skeptics wrong. In the UEFA Champions League this season, the team conquered Group C, and he scored a goal and provided five assists. With Ajax, Antony has won one KNVB Cup (2020–21) and two Eredivisie titles (2020–21, 2021-22).

Manchester United (2022-Present)

On August 30, 2022, Ajax and Manchester United confirmed that they had come to a transfer agreement for Antony. The following day, a five-year contract worth £86 million was agreed upon by Antony and Ajax. This was the biggest transfer in Eredivisie history and the third-highest sum ever paid by the team, after Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. When he arrived, he was given the number 21 shirt that Edinson Cavani, who had recently left the club, had been wearing.

Professional Career Of Antony

He was selected for the Brazil under-23 team on May 15, 2019, in preparation for the 2019 Toulon Tournament. He scored two goals, including the game-winning goal against Japan, to help his team win. On October 7, 2021, Antony played his first match for the Brazil national team in a World Cup Qualifier against Venezuela. He entered the game as a replacement in the 77th minute, and he scored in extra time to give Brazil a 3-1 victory. 

On February 23, 2023, a day before turning 23, Antony also scored the winning goal in a 2-1 Europa League playoff match against Barcelona. At halftime, he replaced someone else in the game. Anthony got the game started and won the team’s first prize on February 26, 2023, when Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in the EFL Cup final.

Family Of Antony

Antony’s parents immigrated to Brazil from Portugal. While pursuing his career, his parents also ensured that he completed his basic education. Antony married his long-time girlfriend Rosilene Xavier. They welcomed their first son Lorenzo in 2019.
