Carlo Ancelotti hits out at Real Madrid players

Carlo Ancelotti has lashed out at his Real Madrid players after their draw at Real Mallorca on the opening day of their season. He claimed that it was a match they should have won and were poor.

Speaking to the media after the match, Ancelotti stated that he was happy with a few days last season, but that was not the case on Sunday night. He added that the players showed poor attitude on the pitch and too offensive.

He said:

“Last year I was happy with some draws, but not today. We could have done much better. I don’t want to make excuses. We just had to do better, with more attitude. You can learn from these games. It’s clear where the problem is. We started the game well, but it wasn’t a good game. We need to defend better. We need more balance. We’ve said it before, we’re very offensive and balance is essential.”

Carlo Ancelotti added that the players were doing well in swapping positions, but it did not work. He continued:

“They swap positions sometimes. Sometimes one or the other occupies the position, depending on how they are doing. The problem is that the team was too open. We have to concentrate more, as we usually do. It’s not a physical or mental problem. When we win the ball back, we all have to think about it together. You can think that it is a problem for the forwards, but it could be a problem for the defence, or for the midfielders. It is not a problem for one, two or three. It is a problem for a team that in this match did not understand that it was a key aspect. Mallorca played a great game defensively. The draw is correct.”

Rodrygo scored the lone goal of the match for Real Madrid in the 13th minute of the game. They dominated the match, but Vedat Muriqi scored a quick goal in the second half and saw the home side pull level.

Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Jude Bellingham also started matches but were unable to help the defending champions beat the side that finished 15th last season. The draw in their opening match of the season leaves Los Blancos 13th in the table and they could fall further down in if Atletico Madrid or Villarreal get the three points or score 2+ goals in the match on Monday night.
