Amad Diallo earns shock start for Manchester United vs Arsenal
Ever since he signed for Manchester United in the January 2021, a lot was expected from Amad Diallo especially after he impressed for Atalanta. But the now 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact on the Red Devils’ first team squad, earning a handful of appearances over the years. Not only that, he has been loaned out several times, with spells at Rangers and Sunderland.
While Diallo did well enough on loan in Scotland, he impressed with Sunderland as he ended his time there with 14 goals and 4 assists across all competitions last season. Yet even that hasn’t been enough for a regular berth off the United bench despite their issues to find the right combination. But the forward has still made appearances, playing nine games and scoring once across all competitions.
Diallo starts alongside Sofyan Amrabat for Manchester United vs Arsenal
However, with Erik ten Hag’s squad suffering serious injury issues, it had many wondering how the Dutch manager would put out a competitive squad with 11 players out injured. That includes Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and a few others. But ahead of the club’s Premier League clash against Arsenal, rumours indicated that the injury crisis has lead to Diallo earning a start.
That has now been confirmed as the 21-year-old Ivory Coast international starts alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund in the front-line. He is joined by Sofyan Amrabat, Casemiro, Kobie Mainoo and a few others as United retain the same back-line that conceded a 4 against Crystal Palace with Erik ten Hag keeping the faith in his squad.
However, Scott McTominay has been ruled fit and starts while Willy Kambwala is on the bench alongside Antony, Christian Eriksen and a few academy products.
