AFC Bournemouth 1–0 Manchester United Player Ratings: Both Teams Share Spoils After a Late Goal from Hojlund

The soon-to-be-tied 20-time Premier League champion team traveled to vitality stadium on 27th April, 2025 with an away win intention against Bournemouth. It was a solid match that saw 1-1 score with goals from Semenyo and Hojlund. The match started well for the hosts as the Cherries made chances out of nothing on multiple occasions in the first 10 minutes. They established the tempo of the game and had more control from the get go.

Moreover, they have won all the early midfield battles in the game. In terms of possession and winning the 2nd balls, they had the upper hand from the very beginning. However, on 16th minute, it was Garnacho who almost scored the first goal but the shot was inches away from the target.

The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Antoine Semenyo hit the ball hard with his left foot from the box to give his team a 1-0 lead. In the 37th minute, Garnacho had another chance to make it 1-1, but the 1 on 1 attempt was denied by Kepa. Man United had a couple of attempts after that. After the normal 45 minutes, 2 minutes were added, but the score stood 1-0.

As the game started in the second half, a quick play from Bournemouth almost saw Semenyo double the lead, but the ball went outside of the post. The substitutions were being introduced after a while and the game halted on 68th minute due out a foul check. After that, Evanilson was shown a red card. The game went back and forth but there were no more goals till the end of the normal time.

After 90 normal minutes, 9 minutes were added to the game. A clutter in the box after a low cross saw Rasmus Hojlund level the score. It was 1-1 with four minutes to be played.

GK- Kepa Arrizabalaga- 4/10

Kepa did not have much do in the majority of the first half. While the Spaniard saved his team from potential disasters with a couple of good decisions, there are times, he seemed to be caught off guard by the United players. He denied Garnacho on multiple occasions.

RB- Adam Smith- 4.5/10

Since Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes both was given the license to go forward, things started to become crowded at the flanks for Bournemouth. While Adam Smith back done his job well, he did not seem as comfortable as he should be.

CB- Illia Zabarnyi- 5/10

Illia was arguably the better defender of the afternoon. He had a great command on his defense line throughout the first half. Made sure to hold a high line when his team was seen pressing the Manu defense to make something happen.

CB- Dean Huijsen- 5/10

Huijsen gets better in through every match he plays. The Dutchman held a high line today and was seen busy with his offensive duties more than his defensive tasks. That being said, his recovery runs made sure his team had an extra man while dealing with the overload in the flanks. Got himself booked in the 62nd minute.

LB- Milos Kerkez- 5.5/10

Just like the majority of the game in the campaign, Kerkez was the busiest player for his team. From overlapping runs to recovery runs, he did it all. The explosive left-back is an asset to this Bournemouth squad.

CM- Alex Scott- 4.5/10

While Alex Scott had great synergy with Tyler Adams and Kluivert, there is no doubt that he could have done way more in the first half. And looking at his reactions in the field, he even knew that.

CM- Tyler Adams- 4.5/10

While the Cherries had the control of the midfield since the kickoff, Tyler Adams rather picked up an unnecessary yellow card in the beginning of the game when he took out Alejandro Garnacho. He had to practice caution for the rest of the game.

CAM- Justin Kluivert- 5.5/10

While he did not had the level of performance he wishes to have, Kluivert was instrumental in Bournemouth’s build-ups in the afternoon. Moreover, on multiple occasions, he was seen switching position to bother the Manchester defenders more.

LM- Antoine Semenyo- 6.5/10

Semenyo was seen pressing relentlessly since the kick off whistle. It ultimately paid off for the winger as he was the one who found the ball to his left foot in the box and had a thumping shot to give his team 1-0 lead.

RM- Dango Ouattara- 5/10

Unlike the majority of the games in this campaign, Outtara was very lively in today’s game. He gave the Manu defenders heights of problems. Tried to attempt a couple of one-twos with Kluivert and Evanilson but things quite did not clicked in the first half.

ST- Evanilson- 4.5/10

Evanilson was the golden piece of the puzzle today for the Cherries. From making off-the-ball runs to protecting the ball, he diligently finished his duties as a number 9. He was the player who flicked the ball to Semenyo’s way when the winger scored the goal. Had an early second-half chance to double the lead, but he missed the reading of the ball coming in. He saw an unfortunate red card that made Bournemouth play the rest of the match with 10 players.

Sub- Marcus Tavernier- 4/10

After the foul that took Evanilson out of the match, Iraola made a couple of subs, with Tavernier being the first one. He came to take Kluivert’s place.

Sub- Lewis Cook- 4.5/10

Lewis Cook came on for Marcus Tavernier during the 70th minute. Iraola wanted to replace Scott and give his team more depth to see out the lead and get the three points.

Sub- Marcos Senesi- 4/10

Senesi came on to the game to give a defensive boost for the squad as the game was in the 85th minute just needed to be seen off by the Cherries.

Sub- Daniel Jebbison- 4/10

Daniel came on to the match during the additional minutes. Outtara was taken off as Iraola wanted to replace the visibly exhausted player.

Manager- Andoni Iraola- 5/10

Iraola had a better day in comparison to Amorim. However, he was trumped by the fresh introductions that Amorim made to level the game.

GK- Andre Onana- 4/10

Onana seemed to be diving the way of the goal where he could have saved the shot. But the deflection from Casemiro made things worse for him, which is probably the reason why United conceded the first goal.

CB- Leny Yoro- 4.5/10

For the first 45 minutes he played, Yoro had made 2 clearances. He won 1 out of his 2 duels. And in terms of aerial duels, he won 1 out of his 1 tackles. Moreover, the defender maintained 89% passing accuracy.

CB- Luke Shaw- 5/10

In the totality of the first half, Luke Shaw maintained xA of 0.02. He had made 1 clearance and interception each. However, the Englishman gave away the ball 7 times. He had made a total of 3 crosses and 3 long balls. He picked up an yellow card on the 78th minute.

CB- Harry Maguire- 5.5/10

Even though Manchester United struggled with their defense in the first half, Maguire was the best of the 3 defenders in the back. He won 2 out of his 2 ground duels but lost the possession three times. The defender maintained 88% passing accuracy in the first half.

CM- Noussair Mazraoui- 4/10

Mazraoui had given Amorim the ultimate versatility lately. He was played as a CM by the manager in today’s game. After the first half, he maintained 0.04 xG and 0.02 xA. However, the midfielder lacked a lot when it came to his defensive duties.

CM- Casemiro- 4/10

While many had blamed the Brazilian for the first goal, it was an unfortunate deflection that had made its way to the goal. Casemiro maintained 66% passing accuracy and made 5 long balls. He won 3 out of his 5 ground duels.

CM- Patrick Dorgu- 4.5/10

Patrick was one of those midfielders today who had seen the lesser touches of the ball. In the totality of the first half, he had maintained 90% passing accuracy. He won 5 out of his 7 ground duels and 2 out of his 3 aerial duels. Picked up a yellow card in the 56th minute.

CM- Kobee Mainoo- 4.5/10

Mainoo was probably the only player who seemed to make things happen every time he touched the ball in the first half. However, it was clear that the Englishman alone could not win it all for United, especially in this game.

LM- Bruno Fernandes- 5.5/10

Bruno was probably the best player for United today. Just like every other game this campaign, he found pocket spaces and utilized it to perfection. However, there was lack of rallying amongst his peers due to which we did not see a goal in the first half.

RM- Alejandro Garnacho- 4/10

Garnacho had a half chance and a one on one chance against Kepa. The Argentine was denied multiple times by the Spanish goalkeeper. The second chance in particular should have been the one where he equalizes, but the finish was very poor.

ST- Rasmus Hojlund- 5/10

A Manchester United forward? Safe to say, Hojlund will have a hard time finding a place in the squad next season if he continues to show inconsistency. Amad Diallo, who was injured for a big chunk of the season, has more goals than him. Though he scored the equalizer, United needs a better forward who will convert more chances.

Sub- Mason Mount- 5/10

Mason Mount came on the game on 65th minute to replace Kobee Mainoo. The number 7 came onto the match as sub along with Ugarte and Lindelof.

Sub- Manuel Ugarte- 4.5/10

Manuel Ugarte came on the 65th minute along with Lindelof and Mount. Amorim wanted to take of Casemiro and introduce fresh legs.

Sub- Victor Lindelof- 4/10

Lindelof came in the game on 65th minute along with Mount and Ugarte. Coach Amorim wanted to make a defensive change as his team was trailing 0-1.

Sub- Chido Obi-Martin- 4/10

He came onto the match during the 76th minute. Mazraoui was taken off for his introduction. He started playing alongside Hojlund while Ugarte went wide after the sub.

Sub- Christian Eriksen- 4/10

Eriksen came onto the game on 90th minute and Dorgu was taken off as the player was in a yellow and Amorim did not wanted to take any chances.

Manager- Ruben Amorim- 4/10

Amorim has a lot of work to do in the coming season. He was very much outplayed by Iraola till the end. He was happy his team at least got a goal.

Sportsdunia Man of the Match is Antoine Semenyo.
