Liverpool agree terms with Mamardashvili – But a loan move to Bournemouth could come first
Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, signalling what could be the first signing of the Arne Slot era at Anfield.
However, the 23-year-old may not immediately be donning the famous red shirt.
Bournemouth eye loan move for Mamardashvili
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s plan involves sending Mamardashvili on loan to Bournemouth before he officially joins the Reds.
The Cherries are prepared to cover his increased salary of £3.4 million a figure currently out of reach for Valencia his parent club.
Mamardashvili, who has spent the last two years on loan in his home country, is eager to make the move to the Premier League.
Despite his ambition to play for Liverpool, the young shot-stopper could first gain valuable Premier League experience with Bournemouth. This arrangement would allow him to acclimate to English football before stepping into the Anfield spotlight.
The potential signing comes as Liverpool looks for a long-term successor to Alisson, who is their current number one. Alisson who is a fan favourite and key player for the Reds is expected to retain his starting role for at least another year with his contract running until 2027.
Mamardashvili’s impressive performances at Euro 2024, including a standout clean sheet in Georgia’s 2-0 victory over Portugal have only increased his appeal to Liverpool. The Reds are considering a transfer fee exceeding £25.7 million for the talented goalkeeper.
As Liverpool prepare for the upcoming Premier League season, they remain the only top-flight club yet to make a signing this summer.
