Atlético Madrid in the market for a new striker after Artem Dovbyk deal collapse

Atlético Madrid are looking to add a new striker to their current roster after losing Álvaro Morata to AC Milan this summer. Girona’s Artem Dovbyk who had a dream debut campaign with the La Liga outfit was heavily linked with a move to Wanda Metropolitano.

But the move collapsed as the Ukrainian striker has agreed personal terms with Roma who will offer somewhere in the region of €35m-€40m for his services. The 27-year-old was the top scorer in La Liga last season with 24 goals.

Los Rojiblancos have also enquired Villarreal’s Alexander Sørloth who reportedly has a €38m release clause. The Norwegian was the second-best striker in La Liga last season with 23 goals. The Norwegian’s exploits at Villarreal have captured the attention of several European clubs, with the likes of Roma and West Ham United vying for the forward’s signature.

Which other strikers have been linked with a move to Atlético Madrid besides Artem Dovbyk?

The Colchoneros have also been linked with PSG forwards Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani but will likely sign either of them on a permanent deal. The duo arrived at the French capital for more than €150m.

Atlético are also optimistic of securing a deal for Julián Álvarez who has reportedly asked Manchester City to let him leave this summer. The Argentinian forward does not want to play second fiddle to Erling Haaland despite scoring 19 goals across all competitions for City last season.

After the Copa America 2024 triumph, Álvarez has contemplated his future with the Premier League champions and has been linked with a switch to Atlético Madrid, although no offer has been made.

But Man City would demand in excess of £65m for the 24-year-old which will definitely put a dent in Atlético’s transfer bank this summer.
