Israel goalkeeper Daniel Peretz out of Paris Olympics due to thigh injury
In a recent development coming in, Bayern Munich and Israel goalkeeper Daniel Peretz will miss the Paris Olympics due to a thigh tendon injury.
The news was confirmed by the Bundesliga heavyweights in an official statement. The club further added that Peretz will be sidelined for several weeks due to the injury.
According to an Israel Football Association (IFA) press release, Peretz stated, “It’s not easy to be this close to realising your dream and then to hear you won’t be able to experience it, at least not this time. The timing of the injury and the process of recovery demand that I not leave room for doubt, even though I believed things would sort themselves out by some miracle.”
The 24-year-old has now returned to Munich for treatment. Peretz had earlier joined Bayern from Maccabi Tel Aviv last year and has made two appearances for the Bundesliga club across all competitions.
In the Israeli Olympic squad, Peretz was one of three players over 23, alongside Sean Goldberg and Omri Gandelman. Israel is set to kick off their Olympic campaign against Mali on July 24 and will also compete in Group D against Japan and Paraguay.
FIFA Delays Decision on Palestinian Proposal to Suspend Israel
On the other hand, on Thursday, FIFA announced that it has postponed its decision regarding a Palestinian proposal to suspend Israel from international soccer due to the ongoing conflict with Hamas. The delay allows the national team of Israel to participate in the Paris Olympics.

Originally, FIFA was set to decide on Saturday following an independent legal review requested two months ago. The decision was scheduled just before the Olympic soccer tournament begins where Israel is grouped with Japan, Mali, and Paraguay.
FIFA cited the need for more time to thoroughly review the issue and stated that a decision will now be made after the Olympics. The independent assessment is expected to be shared with FIFA by August 31.
