Top 5 Flop Signings of the 2023/24 Premier League season

The 2023/24 season of the Premier League has arrived at its final month with Arsenal and Manchester City being the two strongest title contenders. Hundreds of players have shown what they got for the past nine months.

Some of them have lived up to the expectation and some others don’t. A flop signing is inevitable for every football club around the world including in the Premier League. Here are the 5 flop signings of the season.

Moises Caicedo

It’s hard not to put the former Brighton anchor midfielder on the list as he has not been performing well despite a huge cash Chelsea spent. Joining with a staggering £100 million, Caicedo could not give any significant impact for The Blue’s midfield area.

During the 31 league games he played so far, there has been only one pass that leads to a goal he has. Meanwhile, scoring a goal looks even harder for Caicedo who was expected to be a decent partner alongside the World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez.

Max Aarons

Aarons was one of the hottest properties in the Premier League when Norwich City was still playing at the top flight. He spent one season with The Canaries in the Championship division before moving to Bournemouth last summer.

But things have not been good for Aaron since the Jamaican-descendant full back was disrupted by an injury.  Aaron missed 13 games as part of his rehab program which makes it difficult  for him to show his true colours with Bournemouth.

Roman Lavia

Another pricey yet redundant signing Chelsea have done last summer. Lavia has now spent more time in the rehab compared to what he does on the pitch. He was also expected to strengthen The Blues midfield force with Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Lavia had to wait until Gameweek 19, playing 30 minutes, just to be sidelined until the rest of the season due to a hamstring. Chelsea have spent £65 million to for his signature and the price looks overspent looking at what he has done.

Raul Jimenez

Expected to be a perfect replacement for Alekandr Mitrovic at Fulham, it turned the other way around for Raul Jimenez. The Portuguese has not fully recovered from a life-threatening head injury while still playing for Wolverhampton.

It is understood that the trauma is still there. Jimenez scored only five league goals so far. Considering stature level he has shown with Fulham so far, he has degraded a lot compared to the good days with Wolves

Ryan Gravenberch

Ryan Gravenberch was one of the most promising talents coming to Anfield last summer. The Reds were looking for an ideal replacement for Jude Bellingham who was preferring a move to Real Madrid.

Gravenberch has been struggling to cement his place in the first place. Losing it to either Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis MacAlister, and Wataru Endo. His goals were not helping so much to prevent him from going into the flop list.
