EURO 2024: UEFA extends squad strength of teams to 26
UEFA have announced that all teams playing at the EURO 2024 will be allowed to register up to 26 players. The original quota was aet at 23, but after talks with several coaches, the changes have been made.
The increase in the quota will not force any side to name all 26 players. Any national willing to travel with fewer numbers will be allowed, as long as they have a minimum of 17 players for the matchday squad.
The coaches of all 26 nations have until 7 June to name their traveling squad. Announcing the decision on their site, UEFA wrote:
“The UEFA Executive Committee has today decided to increase the maximum squad size of the teams participating in the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 from the original quota of 23 to 26 players. The increase does not represent an obligation for the participating national associations. In accordance with the competition regulations, teams must provide UEFA with a list containing a minimum of 23 players and a maximum of 26 by the deadline of 7 June.”
The first match of the UEFA EURO 2024, which is being held in Germany this summer, takes place on 14 June – just a week after the deadline set for the squad announcements. The first game will see the hosts take on Scotland at the Allianz Arena.
