“I Was Between Life and Death”: Lamine Yamal’s father breaks silence on stabbing incident
The football world was taken aback two days ago when news broke that Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Spanish star Lamine Yamal, had been stabbed in a parking lot in Mataro. However, yesterday, Nasraoui addressed his followers on Instagram for the first time since the incident and subsequently spoke to the press. The attack has garnered widespread attention and concern within the football community.
Speaking about the same, Nasraoui wrote, “I was scared… I was between life and death. I’m feeling better now, I’ve been moved to a ward. I’ll come back stronger than ever,”
Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal participated in a full training session with the Barcelona squad yesterday. The team is preparing for their opening La Liga match against Valencia, scheduled for Saturday (August 17).

Four people arrested by police
In a positive development to the horrific incident, local police informed AFP on Thursday (August 15) that four individuals have been detained in connection with the knife attack on Lamine’s father in Catalonia. Three suspects were apprehended on Wednesday night and are being questioned at the Mataro police station, while a fourth individual was taken into custody at 0900 GMT on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at 1910 GMT on Wednesday in a parking area in Mataro, a town about 30 kilometres from Barcelona, within the Rocafonda neighbourhood, which is Lamine Yamal’s hometown, according to a spokesperson for the Mossos d’Esquadra, the regional police force of Catalonia.
A source close to the family also revealed to AFP that Nasraoui is now “out of danger” and “remains under observation” but in a “stable” condition.
Nasraoui gained fame during the Euro 2024 for his active presence on social media and his frequent media appearances, often sharing content that expressed his support for his son.
