Worst Deadline Day Transfers 2024: All Confirmed Summer Moves Across Major League

Transfers are one of the most primitive calls managers make when choosing players that match the style, and philosophy, above the starts skill with the ball. A new signing is always a gamble, hoping their performance does not drop in the new colours. Moving to new cities, adapting to a different league, adjusting to new teammates, and overall matching the expectations of the money and fans is a thin rope to walk on.

Barcelona has made space for player registration and financial advantage by selling Marcos Alonso to Celta Vigo in a free transfer. Despite, being part of the La Liga winning side with former boss Xavi, the Spaniard has been unable to main team due to injuries and a drop in form.

Considering all these factors, the 33-year-old would find it hard to adapt to a new system, so let’s keep the mind open for surprises as well.

Lukaku

The Belgian, since re-joining Chelsea has had a roller-coaster ride which is yet to reach a steady path. The Euro 2024 was a forgetful event for Lukaku, as his conversion rate and liability have dropped. However, Napoli is also in a similar space trying to find success after lifting the Serie A 2 years ago. Moreover, it’s a profit for the Bridge as they seem to be buying more, than selling. Time will tell if the deal worth £45 million strikes gold at Naples.

Cancelo

Cancelo’s career was like the stock market, where once he was one of the best full-backs and later, turned out to become just another wasted talent. The Portuguese joins the long list of players who lost the spotlight after leaving Pep, while from a business standpoint, it’s a well-closed £ 15 million deal by Manchester City with Saudi side Al Hilal.

Sterling

Once a clutch player with Manchester City, Sterling is on the path of discovery. The move from Chelsea to Arsenal is the latest route taken to derive form from the past. Even though the spell at the Bridge was a nightmare the 29-year-old could not just find his feet. Arteta’s admiration of Sterling continues, as he believes the former Blue will bring a new dimension to his attack. So will this be Chelsea’s exile to Arsenal’s ‘masterstroke’?

Armando Broja

The next Chelsea player on the list is Armando Broja who joined the club signing a deal till 2028. However, Everton nabbed the deal in the last minute from Ipswich to seal the Albanian. Everton who are yet to score a goal this season, hope the youngster could change the fortunes at Merseyside.

Everton’s director of football, Kevin Thelwell, said “Having monitored Armando’s journey for a number of years, we’re very pleased to have been able to bring him to the club.

“Armando is still a young player who has already built up some impressive experience but someone we also feel has lots more potential to be unlocked.”

Everton has an option to buy, at the end of the one year in June 2025.
