World’s Richest Footballer Faiq Bolkiah injured in Thai League 1 match
Not Cristiano Ronaldo, not Lionel Messi but Faiq Bolkiah, the world’s richest footballer has made headlines after getting injured during the Thai League 1 match according to medical reports published on Tuesday (Feb 20). Bolkiah, the nephew of Sultan of Brunei was seriously injured after he collided with an opposing player and suffered serious leg injury. With an estimated $20 billion net worth in his family, Bolkiah is considered the richest footballer in the world ahead of some of the marquee names.
Faiq Bolkiah’s injury update
Playing for Ratchaburi against Police Tero in the Thai League 1 match, the 25-year-old World’s richest player injured his leg seriously having collided with an opposition player. The incident happened in the first half of the match played at the Bunyachinda Stadium in Bangkok. It was just minutes into the game as the player’s leg was caught awkwardly beneath his opponent’s and was forced off the pitch. Ratchaburi, as a result, were forced to make a change before halftime in the match while the player was stretchered off to the hospital.
“Today is a sad day. Prince and the World’s Richest Footballer Faiq Bolkiah got injured while playing for us @rbfcofficial_,” Tanawat Nitikanchana, Ratchaburi’s club president wrote in the caption of an Instagram post.
“I know you must be shocked and in pain.
“But you need to know that we will always be with you until you return to wear the dragon jersey and score goals.

“Even though you’ve only been here for eight months, I believe everyone in this club and the fans love you. We’ll wait for you to come back with us,” Tanawat added when he visited the player in the hospital.
It has not been a happy few days for the world’s richest footballer, having been sent off for two yellow card offenses in the previous match.
Who is Faiq Bolkiah?
Bolkiah has tasted competitive football in England and Portugal before making his witch to Asia with Chonburi. The talented player came through the academy of Southampton during his time in England while studying. He would later sign for Chelsea on a two-year developmental contract before heading to Leicester in 2013. Bolkiah’s contract would expire in 2016 when he left England for Portugal where he Maritomo in the Primeira Liga on a free transfer.
Bolkiah’s time in Portugal came to an end in December 2021 when he switched to Chonburi for his first stint in Asia.
As things stand, he might not have the popularity of Ronaldo, Messi and Kylian Mbappe, with the latter seeking a big-money move to Real Madrid but Bolkiah’s will sees him being the richest footballer in the world.
