Will Angel Di Maria play with Lionel Messi in MLS?
Inter Miami has made an initial approach for Angel Di Maria – Reports
Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Former PSG teammate Angel Di Maria has been linked with a potential move to MLS club Inter Miami in recent times. However, as per the football transfer expert – ‘Fabrizio Romano’, despite interest from Inter Miami’s side and an initial approach being made, the player has yet to agree on any official terms with the MLS club.
Angel Di Maria has played a decent chunk of football with Lionel Messi. The idea of the 36-year-old moving to MLS and playing with Leo again at Inter Miami must have inflicted a certain bit of nostalgia in the minds of football fans. Especially with MLS attracting more and more world-class players lately, this deal does seem feasible on paper.

However, Di Maria currently plays for the Portuguese club Benfica after joining them in July 2023 in a move from Seria A side Juventus. His current contract with the club expires this June 2024. It would be interesting to find out if Inter Miami does go all in for Angel Di Maria, and how things pan out for them in terms of negotiating a deal with the veteran footballer.
Di Maria made his debut for Argentina on the international stage in September 2008. The right-winger has 140 caps for his country at the highest level so far. In these outings, he has also managed to register a respectable tally of 31 goals to his name. He was also one of the most influential players when the Blue and Whites lifted the FIFA World Cup 2022 title in Qatar.

Angel Di Maria’s numbers for Benfica in Liga Portugal in the 2023-2024 season
Angel Di Maria had a very productive recently concluded Liga Portugal campaign for Benfica. With 20 goal contributions (nine goals and 11 assists) in his 28 appearances, Di Maria proved that age is just a number. The 36-year-ols started above 75 per cent of the games for Roger Schmidt’s team.
His combined numbers in the 2023-2024 UEFA Champions League and Europa League are also very impressive. The Benfica winger registered five goals and three assists in his 11 outings including both the major European competitions.
It is quite evident that Angel Di Maria is still among the best players in the world. While his potential move to MLS is still seen as a way for the veteran to see out his career on the highest level, it can’t be denied that the 36-year-old can still quite easily gel in any top European club’s playing squad and can still contribute in terms of goals and assists.
