Who is Arne Slot? Feyenoord boss tipped to replace Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel

While Bayern Munich have endured a revolving door of managers over the last few years, Liverpool FC have stuck to their guns and Jurgen Klopp over that period. That has worked out well for both sides as Bayern have won several league titles and a treble along the way, while the Reds have thrived in England. They ended their drought for a league title and even lifted a Champions League crown.

However, with Jurgen Klopp announcing his decision to leave Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season, it has seen the Reds chase after a replacement. But they were struck by a massive blow after Xabi Alonso, reportedly their top candidate, confirmed he’ll be staying at Bayer Leverkusen. That also hit Bayern Munich hard as the German side have been unhappy with the way Thomas Tuchel has been running things.

Who is Arne Slot?

It has seen both sides go after other options with Ruben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi and a few others on their shortlists. However, a shock name has appeared with Feyenoord boss Arne Slot reportedly a top candidate on both lists. The 45-year-old spent most of his playing career within the Netherlands and after retiring ten years ago, he has slowly transitioned into coaching.

Slot only got his first managerial job four years ago, when he was appointed as AZ Alkmaar’s permanent manager before the 2019/20 season. He spent one and a half seasons at the club, with the COVID-19 pandemic hampering any major changes he could make. But the 45-year-old was eventually sacked while negotiating a deal to sign with Feyenoord.

Since being appointed at Feyenoord at the start of the 2021/22 season, Slot has thrived with the club, taking them to new heights every season. That includes finishing third in the Eredivisie in his debut season at the club alongside a Europa Conference League final place. However, they eventually lost to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma but that didn’t affect Slot or the team.

Instead, they lifted a league title last term, beating Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and company to the punch, finishing a massive 17 points over second place Eindhoven. They did that while playing some exquisite football which has won Arne Slot a lot of plaudits. So much so, that the Dutchman was considered the front-runner to become Tottenham’s next manager before he turned down the job.

However, Slot now considers himself ready for a “bigger” job and confirmed the same in a recent interview when he revealed that his next step will be outside Holland.\
