Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana is holding on to a speedy recovery as the Blues’ fans might see the player return soon: Reports
Wesley Fofana didn’t make a single appearance for Chelsea in the 2023-2024 Premier League campaign
Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has had a rough start to his stint with the Premier League club. The 23-year-old centre-back has hardly featured in a consistent run of games for the Blues at the top tier of English football. It has all boiled down to his unfortunate knack of picking up almost similar types of injuries every now and then during his on-field outings.
As per the latest report from ‘Football London’, Fofana is on his way back to recover from his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury and is hopeful of making a return to Chelsea’s first-team squad. The defender is reportedly eyeing a spot in the London-based club’s tour to the USA this summer which will see them take on clubs like Man City, Real Madrid, and Celtic in fixtures slated as the pre-season outing for the Blues.
Last time when Chelsea’s former manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked about the chances of Wesley Fofana being able to participate in his side’s USA tour, Poch was very sceptical yet hopeful in his thoughts. “We hope so, yes”, were the words stated by the Argentine. “He is doing well, very positive”, on the defender’s recovery, Pochettino stated.
However, the former Blues’ boss did point out that Fofana wasn’t a part of the first-team training then. Wesley Fofana recently posted a picture of himself on one of his social handles, captioning his post which depicted him on the pitch and in pretty much sporty wear – “Sea, Strength, and Sun. Ready for the next war”. It can be inferred that the 23-year-old is on the road to making a steady comeback and Chelsea fans would be wishing for the same.

Wesley Fofana’s notable injury issues in his top-flight career so far
Wesley Fofana went through a broken fibula in the summer of 2021. The injury kept him out of the on-field action for about seven months. Resultingly, the defender missed a decent chunk of about 63 matches for both France and his then-club Leicester City. After signing for Chelsea in the summer of 2022, he suffered a series of knee injuries.
Two back-to-back knee injury concerns kept him out of the Blues’ playing eleven for a combined number of 126 days and 26 matches. His return to the first team in February 2023 was short-lived as an ACL injury suffered by him in July 2023, disabled him from playing even a single game for the Blues in the recently concluded Premier League season under Mauricio Pochettino.
