Florian Writz netted a memorable early goal as his Germany side beat France 2-0 in an international friendly on Saturday.

The 20-year-old scored the fastest-ever goal for Germany in a competitive fixture, just seven seconds into the game against France ending Germany’s three-game winless run.

Writz collected a lofting pass from Toni Kroos right after kick-off and took a couple of touches before surprising the French with his long-range effort that went straight into the goal.

The Bayern Leverkusen’s goal is the second-fastest ever scored in international football, with the fastest being Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner’s six-second opener against Slovakia.

“I don’t think anyone understood or realised what was happening. We were all quite surprised, but there was a lot of joy. You can’t start a match any better,” Wirtz said to German television channel ZDF.

“But for it to work so well and lead to this chance to score, it’s great.”

Will Florian Writz make a move this summer?

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is regarded as one of the sought-after talents in European football and has the tools to develop into a world-class playmaker. Writz has found the net on 11 occasions and has 17 assists in 36 matches across all competitions.

The 20-year-old is versatile enough to operate as a number ten as well as a winger. His impressive performances have attracted a lot of interest in Europe.

Clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Real Madrid have put the German on their radar for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Los Blancos are reportedly frontrunners for the Leverkusen attacker who would do well with a player of his calibre. It remains to be seen if they can fend off competition from Premier League giants, Arsenal and Liverpool.
