Vinicius to consider Saudi move at the end of the season
According to ESPN, Vinicius Jr will wait till the end of the season to decide to move to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund representatives had approached the Brazilian and Real Madrid about a possible deal to sign the player. While they did not present a formal offer to the club, an annual salary of up to €350 million was reportedly discussed with the player. The proposal was for him to play for Al Ahli and become a football ambassador for the country ahead of the 2034 World Cup, which they are hosting.
Real Madrid, however, has refused to discuss any chance of a deal below the winger’s release clause. Vinicius’s contract at Madrid runs until June 2027 with a €1 billion ($1.1bn) release clause.
Vini’s agents have reportedly held off talks of a new contract with Real Madrid as they look to re-evaluate things after the end of this season. This deal would make him the highest-paid sportsperson in the world.
A concern that they reportedly have is that moving now would hamper his Ballon D’or chances. The Brazilian is the favourite to win the award this time around.
Another thing to consider is his status at Real Madrid. With the signing of Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid have a new star forward, who would also want to play on the left side, where Vinicius operates from. This is arguably another thing that could influence Vinicius and his team’s decision-making. This could turn out to be interesting.
