Vinicius Jr to miss 2024 Copa America quarter-finals for Brazil
The Real Madrid star received his second booking of the tournament…
Brazil’s ace forward Vinicius Junior is set to miss their quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa America as the player received his second booking of the tournament during their clash with Colombia today. He was also shown a yellow during their 4-1 drubbing of Paraguay on matchday two of the group stages.
With two disciplinary bookings, Vinicius will now be suspended from their next game, which will be in the last-8 of the Copa America on Saturday. It’s a huge blow for head coach Dorival Junior and co., as Vinicius has been a key player for them at the US showpiece. He even struck twice in their big win over Paraguay.
His suspension opens the door for Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli to come into the XI. The 23-year-old struck eight goals and made five assists from 41 games for the Gunners last season, but it is yet to start a game for the Canaries at the Copa America. It could all change this weekend if Junior opts to give him a chance in the last-8.
Brazil need to beat Colombia to win Group D
Brazil are currently going up against the in-form Colombia, and at the time of writing, the scores are level at 1-1. However, if the Canaries are to win Group D, they must do something which no side has been able to in the last 27 games – beat Los Cafeteros! As things stand, Colombia are going through as group winners by virtue of superior goal difference, and will face Panama in the last-8. Brazil, if they come in at second, will face a daunting clash against Uruguay in the next round.
