Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich is now official with a three-year contract

Bayern Munich’s hunt for a new head coach has reached its end as Vincent Kompany was agreed to be their current boss. The former Manchester City defender was given a contract until 2027. The club announced the breaking news on their official X account.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern,” Kompany said. “It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club – FC Bayern is an institution in international football.”

The rumours of Kompany taking over the job from Thomas Tuchel was circulating for days. It is a bit surprising for a club with Bayern calibre, appointing a newly-relegated manager as their new one.

Rumours that really materialised

Kompany is the only one to agree to joining the Allianz Arena-based club as several names rejected the proposal. The likes of Zinedine Zidane, Hansi Flick, and Julian Nagelsmann were rumoured to come to Bavaria but none of it was materialised.

Burnley, the previous employer of Kompany, officially published the announcement. In the statement, The Clarets admitted that it was difficult to reject such a huge club like Bayern while their boards will continue to find a replacement.

“We can confirm that Burnley Football Club has come to an agreement that will allow Vincent Kompany to leave Turf Moor,” the statement said. “We understand the allure and prestige of a club like Bayern Munich and respect Vincent’s ambition to explore new opportunities.

We wish only the best for Vincent and would like to put on record our appreciation for his dedication every single day he was a part of this football club.”

Kompany’s managerial role has just started in 2019, taking a player-coach role in Anderlecht. He went on to be handed a full-time manager in the following year. Burnley called him in the summer of 2022, granted a Premier League promotion at the end of the season.
