Aston Villa‘s Women’s Super League campaign has been dealt a significant blow as goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar will miss the rest of the season due to hip surgery, the club announced.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international underwent successful surgery after suffering a hip issue ahead of Aston Villa’s 4-0 League Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal earlier this month.

In van Domselaar’s absence, Anna Leat has taken up the goalkeeping duties for Carla Ward’s side, featuring in both the League Cup semi-final and Saturday’s 2-1 WSL victory over Everton.

Van Domselaar, who joined Aston Villa from FC Twente last summer, adds to the list of sidelined players at the Midlands club.
