Venezuela 1-1 Brazil Player Ratings: Frustration for Brazil as Vinícius Júnior Misses Crucial Penalty

Brazil had to share points with Venezuela today after the hosts held them to a 1-1 draw. The two sides were ready to go all out for the three points, but the 5-time champions missed chances to get the win.

Raphinha scored from a free kick to open the scoring in the first half. However, a stunning finish from Telasco Segovia saw Venezuela pull back quickly after the restart.

Vinicius Jr won a penalty in the second half, but saw his effort saved and that was the final big chance they had to win the match.

Goalkeeper

Rafael Romo – 9: Was active inside the box and always made sure he got the ball before the Brazilian players. Gave away a penalty but made up for it by saving the effort from Vinicius Jr.

Defenders

Jon Aramburu – 6.5: Vinicius Jr gave him a tough time and there was little he could do about it. He won just one duel in the match but did not com it a single foul.

Ruben Ramirez – 6.5: Did well to handle the Brazilian forwards today but was finding it hard when Vinicius Jr moved to the middle in the second half.

Wilker Ángel – 6.5: Won all his aerial duels today and was ready to play aggressively when needed. Kept the Brazilian players on their toes and played a key role in getting the draw.

Miguel Navarro – 6.5: Rather quiet game compared to the others today. He had very little trouble dealing with Savinho and was ready to charge forward when needed.

Midfielders

Yangel Herrera – 6: Had to be taken off the pitch after just 15 minutes because of an injury. He was hardly involved in the game and had managed just two passes before going off.

José Martínez – 7: Played just over an hour but had more defending to do than anything else. He managed just 11 passes, but was positioning himself in ways to help the defenders.

Eduard Bello – 6: Played 80 minutes but was hardly involved in the game. Managed one shot on goal, but it was saved by Ederson.

Jefferson Savarino – 6.5: Started well but just could not keep it going the whole game. He finished with just 20 passes despite playing the full 90.

Jhon Murillo – 6: Was on the pitch for just the first 45 minutes and never looked like he was getting into the game. He got isolated very easily and was taken off at half-time.

Forward

Salomón Rondón – 6: Had several chances to score today but just did not look confident. Managed to get just two of his five shots on target and missed two big chances.

Goalkeeper

Ederson – 6.5: Should have done a lot better for the goal as he was easily beaten. He made three saves in the match but was hardly troubled by the efforts.

Defenders

Vanderson – 6: Played the whole match despite his early booking. Venezuela knew that they could target him and they exposed him.

Marquinhos – 7.5: While the Brazilian defense continues to look weak and wobbly, the PSG star has stood out once again. He was quick to come out and stop the attacks and also ensured Rondon got no time on the ball.

Gabriel Magalhães – 7.5: The Arsenal man was also in good form today and ensured that the scoreline remained 1-1. He spent most of the game around the half-line ready to receive passes and start attacks.

Abner Vinícius – 6.5: Not his best game as he was hardly getting involved. Managed just 19 passes while most of the game was played around him.

Midfielders

Gerson – 7: Wanted to prove his worth today and did everything he could to get the limelight. He was ready to take shots from far off as well but it did not trouble the goalkeeper.

Bruno Guimarães – 6.5: Did not make his usual runs forward as he was playing as the deep-lying midfielder today. Could have easily done a lot more but was keen on stopping the counters more than starting them himself.

Forwards

Savinho – 7: Not his best game but he stitll managed to impress. Should be taking more shots and that’s something the fans wanted to see too.

Raphinha – 8: Scored from a brilliant free-kick but should have got on the scoresheet before that as well. Kept trying until the end but Romo was too good.

Vinícius Júnior – 7: A live wire on the pitch throughout the match but just could not keep his nerves while taking the penalty. He was the biggest threat for Venezuela but could not make the most of things.

Igor Jesus – 5: Played up front but was hardly involved. He did not get a single shot away and still played 70 minutes in the game.

Substitutes

Luiz Henrique – 7

Lucas Paquetá 7

Gabriel Martinelli – 6

Estêvão – 6
