Ernesto Valverde gives important update on Nico Williams transfer saga
Athletic Club Bilbao’s present and FC Barcelona’s former head coach, Ernesto Valverde has provided an important update regarding the sensational Nico Willams’ transfer possibility. The Blaugranas are trying hard to secure Williams, following his impressive spell in Euro 2024, but his club Bilbao hasn’t yet responded well.
FC Barcelona have been desperate post-Euro 2024 to secure the left-winger, with a hope of him gelling up well with Lamine Yamal in the right, to solve their scoring vowes, which was a headache last season. Talks haven’t however been smooth for this transfer, with Barca reportedly failing to offer an impressive price owing to their financial difficulties.
Athletic Club manager Valverde has now provided an interesting update on the much talked speculation. He made it crystal clear that Nico Williams staying is very important for the club’s “self-esteem”, but with the market open till the end of this month, anything is possible. He also assured that Athletic Club will tend to have the “best possible squad at the end of this month”.
It is important to note that Bilbao has handed the respected No. 10 jersey to their sensational 22-year-old. Also, FC Barcelona seems to be a bit annoyed with how the deal is progressing. Many reports are claiming that the Spanish giants are considering other options like Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, Bayern’s Kingsley Coman, and Croatia national team footballer Ivan Perisic. Signing Coman would be ideal considering their financial situation.
Nico Williams had three goal contributions in six Euro 2024 games. In club football, he has featured in 37 matches last season. His good form and partnership with Yamal must have interested Barcelona, who have an inconsistent Ferran Torres on the left, while Ansu Fati is reportedly on the departure list.
