Group F produced some exciting games as well, as Turkey got the ball rolling with a 3-1 win against Georgia. Portugal struggled for most parts but mounted a late comeback to defeat Czechia 2-1.
Euro 2024 Golden Boot Standings
There have been 34 goals scored at Euro 2024 so far. However, a remarkable thing to note is that there have been no repeat scorers, with 31 different scorers, and three own goals. Hence, this list will cover just the top 5 players who have the best chances of competing for the Golden Boot.
5. Jude Bellingham (England)
The Englishman continued in his rich vein of form, replicating his heroics for Real Madrid while playing for the Three Lions as well. He scored in the 13th minute to put his team up as they played well to defend their advantage and held on to secure the win.
Up against Denmark next, Jude Bellingham could get on the scoresheet once again as he displays his scoring prowess.
4. Arda Guler (Turkey)
The Turkish teenage sensation ran the show for his team in their 3-1 win against Georgia on June 18. He scored a lovely goal to restore his team’s advantage in the second half to make it 2-1 in the 65th minute. It was also his only shot of the game, but he will be eager to remain in the Euro 2024 Golden Boot race.
Turkey will be up against Portugal in their next game and all eyes will be on Guler to see if he can replicate his exploits against a side ranked much higher.
3. Wout Weghorst (Netherlands)
Weghorst showed his value to his team as he came on as an impact substitute and made the impact Ronald Koeman had desired. He scored to put his team 2-1 ahead in the 83rd minute with his first touch after being subbed on, securing a win for Oranje on opening night.
Up against France next, things could get tricky for the Dutch, but Weghorst’s presence in the box will give them hopes of scoring.
2. Alvaro Morata (Spain)
One of the most prolific scorers in his country’s history, Morata got his Euro 2024 Golden Boot chase off to a good start. He scored Spain’s first goal at this edition of the tournament with a composed finish to make it 1-0 in the 29th minute.
La Roja have Albania up next, which will prove to be a tricky fixture and will require the utmost effort from their players to win.
1. Kai Havertz (Germany)
Currently our favourite to win the Euro 2024 Golden Boot, Havertz made a good start to this tournament in his team’s 5-1 win. He assisted his team’s second goal scored by Jamal Musiala, before scoring from the spot with a well-taken penalty to make it 3-0.
The Germans will take on Hungary on June 19 in what could be another landslide victory for the hosts as Kai Havertz will be expected to score in that one as well.
