Ligue 2 Club Troyes on the Brink of Double Relegation as Their Recent Match Gets Abandoned
Troyes players were left frustrated as fans obstructed their match against Valenciennes
The Ligue 2 match of Troyes against their fellow relegation rivals Valenciennes FC had to be abandoned ultimately after their fans threw flares on the pitch. The fans showed their disappointment in how the club has seen a drastic dip in their direction in the last year or so. Troyes was earlier relegated from the Ligue 1 in the 2022-2023 season and now they are on the brink of a double relegation as they currently sit among the last four teams in the Ligue 2 table.
The football club which is reportedly owned by the ‘City Football Group’ has been going through a tough phase. During the act of throwing the flares on the pitch, the fans also were spotted hurling chants of ‘Merci, City’, targeted towards the club owners. The match when restarted after after the obstruction break ended in a 1-1 draw as an opportunity to get all three points in their survival fight slipped away from the home side’s lap.
According to reports, Troyes players were also witnessed throwing the flares/missiles back to where they came from the stands to restore the playing conditions. After referees initially stopped the game and the pitch was cleared, the fans further embedded more flares towards it resulting in the game being called off for the second time.
