Tragic accident claims the life of former Cameroon midfielder Landry Nguemo
The Cameroon Football Federation confirmed the news on Thursday that former Celtic and Bordeaux midfielder Landry Nguemo aged 38 died in a car crash in his homeland.
The statement said “FECAFOOT have just learned the news of the death of the former Indomitable Lion Landry Nguemo following a traffic accident. “FECAFOOT offers our condolences to those close to him, and to all the family of football,”
In French football, the defensive midfielder became a League Cup winner in 2006 and later moved to Celtic on loan before making Bordeaux his permanent home in 2011.
The first three years were spent at Les Girondins followed by subsequent spells with Saint-Etienne. He later had small stints at Akhisar Belediyespor and Kayserispor in Turkey.
Lastly, he hung his boots in 2019 after a brief time with the Norwegian side Kongsvinger.
Nguemo donned the Cameroon colours for 41 caps from 2006 to 2014, representing the Lions at two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments respectively.
However, he was an unused substitute in the 2008 final defeat by Egypt in Accra.

Moreover, since retirement, the native of Cameroon’s West Province coached the youth team of Nancy and also invested in his homeland.
He aimed to improve the education and life of Cameroon’s young footballers, while he also tried a hand at property development. Only a few days ago, he invited Brentford and Indomitable Lions forward Bryan Mbeumo to visit the newly built – CAN House – in Nguemo’s hometown of Dschang.
The former player was given a heartfelt message on the Celtic website.
“Everyone at Celtic Football Club is shocked and saddened at the news of Landry N’Guemo’s passing at the young age of 38,”
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic Football Club are with Landry’s family and friends at this sad time.”the club said in a statement.
