Tottenham front-runner to trigger Crystal Palace’s midfielder release clause but a transfer may turn out to be difficult
As per a recent report from ‘Team Talk’, Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur is currently the favorite to trigger Crystal Palace’s talented attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze’s release clause, termed to be about £60 million. Spurs are reportedly leading the race amidst their fierce league rival Arsenal also been linked to and interested in the England international player.
The report further laid out that, Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou are still looking for midfield and winger options in the ongoing summer transfer window. By signing Eze they could get a player who is capable of playing at both positions. The 26-year-old can adapt to play either as an attacking midfielder or a left-winger depending on the team’s needs.
However ‘Football London’, has expressed that since Michael Olise was sold to Bayern Munich by Crystal Palace recently in the ongoing transfer window for a hefty sum of around £59-61 million (as per SPORTbible), the Eagles do not need to sanction Eze’s departure in any rush of events.
Also, Oliver Glasner is reportedly reluctant to let the 26-year-old leave leading into the new season. Eze was one of the most influential players from Palace’s hierarchy in the last top-flight campaign, so Glasner’s reluctance makes sense.
However, it is further inflicted by ‘Team Talk’, that if Tottenham can ably meet the £60 million release clause ask for Eberechi Eze, Glasner might not be able to have any influential say in Crystal Palace’s upper hierarchy giving a green light to a potential deal. Eze’s current contract with the Eagles runs till June 2027. He netted 11 goals and had four assists to his name in 27 outings in the last Premier League season.
