“It’s character building” Tony Bellew Declares his Loyalty for Everton in Sean Dyche’s Presence
The star former English professional boxer Tony Bellew has been a lifelong Everton football club supporter, his undying love for his favourite club was again on display in his recent television appearance alongside the former Everton manager Sean Dyche.
Bellew, who now works as a boxing analyst and commentator after his retirement in 2018 was amongst the prominent guests’ panel on Sky TV’s popular game show “A League of Their Own” on Thursday, 20th of February 2025.
His fellow panellists game show included; Ex-Premier League players Micah Richards and Jamie Redknapp alongside English manager Sean Dyche and host Romesh Ranganathan. The 42-year-old was baffled by the fact that Jamie & Micah weren’t local club supporters after he asked the former players which club they supported.
After Tony’s rant about backing the clubs where they are from in his typical Scouse accent, Micah threw his question at the WBC cruiserweight champion asking, “Why do you support Everton, Tone?”
To which Tony Bellew quicker replied, “Trust me, I didn’t choose, I was chosen. You have to be a special kind to support my club, mate. All my children are Evertonians as well – I’ve told them, it’s character-building,”

Being born in Merseyside, he has been a fan of Toffees since his childhood through thick and thin. The English boxer’s passion, love, and dedication for his beloved club was plain to see.
Bellew’s words made Sean Dyche laugh heartily, Dyche was last in charge of Everton from 2023 to 2025 at Goodison as their head coach and recently parted ways with the club. The 53-year-old is enjoying his career break from the sidelines after being relieved from coaching in January following miserable results in the Premier League.
