Thomas Partey could look to stay at Arsenal as the Mikel Merino deal is yet to be agreed
There has been speculation regarding the departure of Thomas Partey, but things seem to have taken a U-turn. There are reports that he could stay at the club, as manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu Gasper are eyeing a striker in the transfer market.
The Ghanaian midfielder, Partey only played 16 times for the Gunners last season due to frequent injuries. He dealt with groin and hamstring problems last season, which kept him out of action for the majority of the season.
There have been reports that Partey, who is currently on 200,000 pounds per week, is contracted with the club until the summer of 2025 and will not be presented with a new deal.
Gunners have been in the market in search of a midfielder and were linked with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi at the start of the year. Later, they were in pole position to land his teammate Mikel Merino.
They are in advanced talks with Sociedad over a 25–30-million-pound deal for Merio, but the deal is taking a bit of time. With personal terms already agreed upon with the 28-year-old, Partey could move as he has interest from the Saudi Pro League.
