“There are other ambitions” – Bukayo Saka opens up on his future at Arsenal

Ever since he made his debut for Arsenal at only 17, few players have done as well for the Gunners as Bukayo Saka has with the now 22-year-old thriving as the club’s focal point. The English international has come leaps and bounds from his first appearance for the North Londoners as he is now a full-fledged part of the England squad and a key member of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team.

So much so, that 22-year-old is currently Arsenal’s top scorer with 16 goals and their top creator with 13 assists across all competitions. That has only seen Saka’s stock rise especially with impressive performances as Arsenal challenge for a league title and in the Champions League. However, the forward has revealed that he has bigger plans for the future and wants to keep growing.

Saka keen on doing lot more than just playing for Arsenal

The 22-year-old, in an interview with L’Equipe, has revealed that while he had different ambitions when he was growing up, things have changed now. Saka also admitted that being called up for England and playing Champions League football were two goals, but now he has different goals. The forward further added that he always had issues, like most people, but believes in himself to overcome them.

“The more you grow, the more certain things motivate you. Making my debut with Arsenal, playing in the Champions League, being called up for England.. now, there are other ambitions. I always had this determination to succeed,” Saka told L’Equipe.

If you don’t believe in yourself, you create problems for yourself. Of course I had my issues, the usual ones you face in life, but I always try, and still do try to eliminate fear from my mind.”

Saka wants to be a hero for the new generation

The forward has already admitted that it was because of Cristiano Ronaldo, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry that he became a footballer as they were heroes to him. However, Saka has now confessed that he wants to be a hero for the new generation because he knows what it’s like to be in their shoes and believes he can be a role model for the new age.

“I know what it’s like to be in their place. I can see myself in them. At their age, I was the same. Now, I want to be the hero of the new generation,” he added.
