Social Media reactions as Man City beat Man Utd 7-6 on penalties to win the Community Shield
Manchester City won the Community Shield at Wembley beating United 7-6 in penalties after Manuel Akanji scored the decisive spot-kick. The match went into the shootout after a 1-1 draw in the regulation time. Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring for the Reds, but Bernardo Silva popped up with just few minutes left to send the contest to penalties.
The first half ended goalless as City looked aggressive in the opening minutes, creating panic among United players with their energy and effective press. This led to Martinez being dispossessed closed to the penalty area, with Bobb finding McAtee, who curled an effort against the inside of the post. United fought well as they went close through Amad and Rashford. The Ivorian went through on goal and passed it to Casemiro, who attempted to pass rather than shooting.
In the second half, United had numerous opportunities on the counter-attack, but with Marcus Rashford hitting the post and McTominay missing a point-blank range header, it just wasn’t their day.
