Sheffield United vs Norwich City Preview

  • Competition: EFL Championship
  • Date: Saturday, January 18
  • Time: 3:00 PM GMT
  • Venue: Bramall Lane

Sheffield United vs Norwich City will take place at Bramall Lane in the EFL Championship in the middle kick-off slot on January 18 as the third-placed side will host the team in 11th place.

The Blades will enter this game on the back of a poor run of form. They have managed just one win in their last five matches across competitions, falling to three defeats and securing one draw in the process. In this run, Sheffield have scored four goals and conceded seven, failing to score in two games. They defeated Watford 2-1 in their last Championship match but crashed out of the FA Cup following a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff last time out.

The Canaries, on the other hand, will enter this game on the back of a good run of form. They have won three of their last five games, secured one draw, and have also fallen to one defeat in this spell. A run of three wins and a draw has seen them climb up to 11th in the table and they will look to continue the ascent with similarly strong performances. However, they were humbled 4-0 by Brighton in the FA Cup in their last match.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the team news from both camps.

Manager Chris Wilder went with a slightly rotated squad in his team’s last two games as they dealt with injuries to key players. Kieffer Moore is the latest addition to the list as he is down with illness and could miss out. Other absentees are Femi Seriki, Gustavo Hamer, Harry Souttar, Ollie Arblaster and Vinicius Souza, among others, who are all expected to return towards the end of January.

Manager Johannes Thorup fielded a strong lineup against Brighton but fell to a crushing defeat, with Marcelino Nunez picking up a knock as well. He could miss out along with Anis Ben Slimane, Gabriel Forsyth, Joshua Sargent and Liam Gibbs, who are all out until early February.

Key Players to Watch in Sheffield United vs Norwich City

Callum O’Hare (Sheffield United)

Midfielder O’Hare has been among the top contributors for Sheffield United this season as they look to make a return to the Premier League. With five assists to his name, he is the joint-top assists provider alongside the injured Gustavo Hamer. The incredible part is that he has managed his assists tally with just 1.81 xA, which means he has highly overperformed in this aspect.

Borja Sainz (Norwich City)

The Spanish winger has bagged an incredible 18 goal contributions for his team so far this season, which is twice the number of the player second on the list. Of these, 15 have been goals that have come from a reasonably good 10.21 xG, meaning he has slightly overperformed in this metric. Sainz will look to continue in the same fashion.

Sheffield United vs Norwich City Prediction

Recent head-to-head points towards a home win, that too with relative ease. However, Norwich have been in better form of late and could pose a tough challenge for the Blades despite playing at their patch. They will have to dig deep and will win this one narrowly.

Predicted Score: Sheffield United 2-1 Norwich City
