Sheffield United vs Burnley Preview

  • Tournament: EFL Championship 2024-25
  • Date: Thursday, December 26, 2024
  • Time: 3:00 pm GMT
  • Venue: Bramall Lane

A potentially exciting EFL Championship clash will see Sheffield United host Burnley at Bramall Lane on Boxing Day (December 26). Both sides are vying for promotion and three points against each other could be vital in the long run.

Sheffield currently sits atop the Championship table and are hoping to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. They have won 15, drawn five and lost two of their 22 league games so far and sit three points above second-placed Leeds United.

Burnley, meanwhile, are third in the standings, four points behind Sheffield as they also look to get back into the Premier League after getting relegated just last season. They have 12 wins, eight draws and two defeats in 22 league games so far.

It’s evidently a huge clash in the Championship and a win for either side could go a huge way in their pursuit of promotion. A win for Sheffield will make them favorites while a win for Burnley could put them higher in the mix.

The Welsh striker joined Sheffield United from Bournemouth in the summer but hasn’t been able to replicate his excellent form. He has scored just five goals in 17 games across competitions this season.

However, Kieffer Moore is still among the top scorers for Sheffield, with only Tyrese Campbell having scored more goals. The Welshman has had to deal with some injury issues but has returned in sensational form. He’s scored three goals in his last two games.

Moore scored in their 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle and then scored both goals in their 2-0 win over Cardiff. He will be keen to add to his tally in an important game on Thursday.

Josh Brownhill

Josh Brownhill has been excellent for Burnley over the years and it’s the same this season as well. He is their top scorer with eight goals and two assists in 20 Championship games and continues to create for the Clarets.

Brownhill has scored three goals and provided two assists in his last five appearances. He scored one and assisted one in their 2-1 win over Watford last time out. He will be keen to help his side get a big win on Thursday as they aim to earn promotion.

Sheffield United vs Burnley Prediction

It is a huge clash between two in-form teams at the top of the Championship table. Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last 11 games, having won nine and drawn two of them. Their last defeat came back in October when they lost 1-0 against Middlesbrough.

Sheffield have won their last three games as they beat Millwall 1-0, Plymouth Argyle 2-0 and Cardiff 2-0. Burnley, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last nine games across competitions, having won six and drawn three. They have won their last two games, beating Norwich City 2-1 and Watford 2-1 as well.

Both sides have been in terrific form and have played some great football. Both sides also have some injury concerns albeit Burnley are more hit. With Sheffield having the home advantage and considering Burnley’s injuries, the hosts should edge out a victory here.

Predicted Score: Sheffield United 2-1 Burnley
