Key Stats
- This was Scotland’s 12th major tournament group stage and they have failed to win a single match in 50% of them – at the 1954, 1958, 1986 and 1998 World Cups and EURO 2020 and 2024.
- Kevin Csoboth’s goal for Hungary in the 100th minute was the latest goal ever scored in a European Championship match (excluding extra-time and penalty shootout). It was timed at 99 minutes and 32 seconds.
- Scotland had just 17 shots at EURO 2024 in total – since the group stage wasintroduced in 1980, that is the joint fewest by a nation in a group stage, along withNorthern Ireland at EURO 2016.
Key Moment
Scotland fail to get any of their efforts in the final minute into the back of the net and Hungary make the most of it. They countered in the final seconds with Roland Sallai rolling the ball into the box and Kevin Scsoboth slotting it in.
Player of the match
Kevin Csoboth scored the goal but the player of the match is easily Roland Sallai as he was relentless from start to end. Ended up getting the assist for the all-important goal as well.
Conclusion
Scotland will complain about the penalty decision but they have only themselves to blame as there were other chances to get the goal during the match. They failed to get any shot away in the first-half, and they has eventually cost them a chance to qualify for the knockout stage.
