Scotland Squad EURO 2024: Who’s in and Who’s out, Key Players and Predicted Lineup
Scotland have been given a decent group at Euro 2024 and can make it to the knockout stages. The Tartan Army are up against Germany in the opening match of the tournament and then faces Switzerland and Hungary.
The Scots have been to 12 major tournaments but have never managed to get out of the Group Stage. They will be hoping that it is their 13th time luck when they take the field this month.
Steve Clarke’s side has a good mix of players, and most of them were in good form in the 2023/24 season. Without further ado, here is a look at the squad, the expected line-up, and the major missings:
GOALKEEPERS
Norwich City might have missed out on getting back to the Premier League, but Angus Gunn was in top form for The Canaries. He is expected to be their starting goalkeeper, with Zander Clark and Liam Kelly as the backups.

---|---|
Zander Clark | Hearts |
Angus Gunn | Norwich City |
Liam Kelly | Motherwell |
DEFENDERS
Andy Robertson suffered an injury scare on Monday, but Steve Clarke gave a positive update on the left-back and revealed that the Liverpool star is fine. He told the media:
“He [Robertson] is fine. It was a precaution, really. The ball just caught his ankle but he will train tomorrow, he will be fine. Obviously, at this stage, we are going to be extra cautious. But he is OK, he is fine and we look forward to him joining back in tomorrow.”
With Robertson fit, he will be the left wing-back once again, with Ryan Porteous, Jack Hendry, and Kieran Tierney as the center-backs. Anthony Ralston is expected to be the right wing-back this summer.

MIDFIELDERS
Billy Gilmour, Callum McGregor, Scott McTominay and John McGinn will easily be the top picks for the starting XI. The backups will be Ryan Christie, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Jack, and Kenny McLean, and they should be called into action in the second half of the matches.

---|---|
Stuart Armstrong | Southampton |
Ryan Christie | Bournemouth |
Billy Gilmour | Brighton |
Ryan Jack | Rangers |
John McGinn | Aston Villa |
Callum McGregor | Celtic |
Kenny McLean | Norwich City |
Scott McTominay | Manchester United |
FORWARDS
Steve Clarke likes to use just one forward in his starting XI, but he is taking five of them to Germany. Lawrence Shankland should be the one leading the attack this summer, but Ché Adams will give him tough competition as they aim to get into the knockout stages.
Tommy Conway, James Forrest, and Lewis Morgan will be the backups and are unlikely to get a lot of minutes unless the manager changes the system or goes all-out in attack toward the end of matches.

---|---|
Ché Adams | Southampton |
Tommy Conway | Bristol City |
James Forrest | Celtic |
Lewis Morgan | New York Red Bulls |
