Former Italian Star Roberto Baggio Robbed During Spain vs. Italy Match
In a disturbing incident, former Italian football star Roberto Baggio was robbed at his home in Vicenza on Thursday, June 20. The robbery took place while Baggio was watching Italy‘s Euro 2024 match against Spain according to local police reports cited by ESPN.
Robbers Break In During Match
At around 10 p.m. (local time) at least five robbers broke into Baggio’s house. The 57-year-old football legend confronted them but was struck in the head with a gun by one of the intruders.
After injuring Baggio the robbers locked him and his family in a room and proceeded to loot the house, stealing jewellery, watches, and cash.

Baggio’s Statement on the Ordeal
After the robbers left Baggio managed to break down the door and call the police. He was taken to a local hospital where he received stitches for his injury.
Thankfully the rest of his family was unharmed. Baggio later spoke to the Italian news agency ANSA, saying,
“Anything can happen under such circumstances. Fortunately, the violence only resulted in some stitches, bruises, and a lot of fear. Now we have to get over the fear.”

Roberto Baggio is a revered figure in Italian football having played 56 international matches for Italy and scoring 27 goals. He enjoyed a successful career in Serie A playing for AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus.
Meanwhile, in the Euro 2024 match defending champions Italy lost to Spain 1-0. Italy’s next match will be against Croatia on June 25 while Spain will take on Albania on June 24.
