Arsenal dealt with another injury blow as Riccardo Calafiori taken off in Italy’s 3-1 victory against France
Arsenal are dealt with another injury blow ahead of the north London derby clash against Tottenham Hotspur as Riccardo Calafiori was forced off in Italy’s nation’s league fixture against France. He had problems with his calf after a challenge with Ousmane Dembele and was substituted in the 70th minute.
When the defender was subbed off, Italy were winning 2-1 with goals from Federico Dimarco and Davide Frattesi. Giacomo Raspadori added his name to the scoresheet four minutes late to secure the victory. Italian coach Luciano Spalleti, when asked about Riccardo Calafiori’s Injury, said, “We need to assess Riccardo, but with our staff, we’ve got a good chance to have him back with us for the next game.”
Arsenal’s injury concerns
This injury came in as a surprise for Arsenal, as Ousmane Dembele’s challenge unfortunately landed on the Italian, hitting his calf and ankle. The Gunners will face a setback if the 22-year-old is declared unfit for the upcoming North London derby, with Declan Rice and Mikel Merino already sidelined due to suspension and injury. Takehiro Tomiyasu will also not be available as he continues his recovery. Gabriel Jesus and Kieran Tierney have also raised serious doubts for the upcoming clash after the end of the international break.
This Italian defender joined Arsenal from Bologna on a deal worth 42 million pounds to add to the club’s defensive ammunition. He had signed a five-year contract until 2029. He will likely be unable to play the next match for Italy against Israel. However, Arsenal would be hopeful to not lose another summer signing in pursuit of breaking Manchester City’s dominance in the Premier League.
