Revealed: Why is Marcus Rashford not playing for Manchester United
27-year-old prolific English forward Marcus Rashford was once again left out of the Manchester United squad, and this happens to be the fourth straight game where the player has not been included. The player last featured for the club in a UEFA Europa League game against FC Viktoria Plzeň on December 12. His omission has been a strict call by new head coach Ruben Amorim, and now the gaffer has further made it clear why Rashford is not a part of his plans.

Following the game against FC Viktoria Plzeň in which Marcus played for 56 minutes, he was not included in the others. The first one was the high-voltage Manchester Derby, which United won. Following the game Rashford appeared in an interview with Henry Winter, where he shared that (quoting ESPN), “It’s disheartening to be left out of a Derby”. He said prior that he thinks he’s “ready for a new challenge”.
These statements were a bit shocking knowing that only in July 2023, Rashford signed a £325,000-a-week 4½-year contract extension. But now the picture is looking clear to many, as the new coach Amorim cleared that the forward is out of the squad as a result of his performance.
Amorim seemed to have questioned the professionalism and intent of the player. He went on to say, “We have to be the same professionals, the same guys, winning or losing. Losing, I have to be stronger. I will continue with my idea until the end.” He also clearly stated that Rashford has not shown any improvement in the demands after being left out.
Who are the possible replacements for Marcus Rashford for Manchester United?
The situation looks troublesome now, and the early statements of Rashford surely speculate an exit for the player soon, thus hinting at a possible end to the long eight years with the senior men’s side. As per CaughtOffSide, the Red Devils have already started to eye three replacements for Rashford, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Rashford’s overall journey with the Red Devils has been brilliant. He is one of the star players, having played over 400 games (426) for the club. He has scored a total of 138 goals and assisted 63.
However, in the 2024-25 season, he wasn’t satisfactory. He has only scored seven and assisted three in the 24 games he represented the club. But, with that being said he is still the second-highest goalscorer for the club this season.
