Real Madrid have done it again and made it to the UEFA Champions League final. The Spanish side have made it to their 18th final and are looking to lift the trophy for the 15th time.
Both sides started off strong and the home side were favorites to go through. They dominated the first half but failed to score – taking the game into the final 45 minutes level at 2-2 on aggregate.
Alphonso Davies broke the deadlock in the 68th minute with a stunning strike. He cut inside and belted a goal into the far corner with his right foot.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side were losing 1-0 in the 88th minute but managed to turn things around in the final seconds. Manuel Neuer, who was the hero on the night so far for Bayern Munich, but a mistake saw Real Madrid get back level.
The German goalkeeper was managing to keep Los Blancos forwards at bay and was an octopus in front of the goal. Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, and Federico Valverde kept trying to score but just could not get past the goalkeeper.
However, Carlo Ancelotti’s substitution did the job, and Joselu made the most of a shock mistake from the Neuer. The German goalkeeper could not hold on to a shot from Vinicius Jr and the ball popped out just a few feet away.
Joselu made the most of the chance and tapped in from a couple of yards out. The match looked set to go into extra time, but the Spanish forward had other plans.
Antonio Rudiger produced a stunning cross from inside the box, and Joselu notched in the winner in the 91st minute. The goal was initially ruled out by the linesman for offside., but VAR overturned the decision and awarded the goal to the Spanish side.
Bayern Munich had nine minutes of added time to get the equalizer and had a good chance at the very end. Matthijs de Ligt had the ball in the back of the net, but the linesman flagged for offside and the referee’s whistle blew just before the ball got to the defender’s feet.
Thomas Tuchel admitted that it was a disastrous decision during the game and said:
“It’s an absolute disaster. This scene must be played out to the end. That’s the rule. The linesman made the mistake, and the referee made the second mistake. It’s a violation of the rules.”
Real Madrid will now face Borussia Dortmund, who defeated PSG in the other semifinal, on June 1st.
