Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric declines coaching role offered by manager Carlo Ancelotti

Real Madrid’s long-serving midfielder Luka Modric was offered a coaching role in Carlo Ancelotti’s staff for next season. However, the Croatian has reportedly rejected the offer for now.

This is as per reports from Spanish outlet Diario AS, which have added that Modric believes he can still play for another season at least.

Ancelotti made the offer to Luka Modric in goodwill, considering he has been with Real Madrid for more than a decade. Additionally, he has a unique skillset and one of the best-ever passing techniques, which can be passed on to the new generations.

However, Modric politely declined the offer from the Italian, although he appreciated it.

Having joined from Tottenham Hotspur for £30 million back in 2012, Luka Modric has become a Real Madrid legend. He has made 516 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring 38 goals and providing 83 assists. During his time in Spain, he has won five Champions League titles, three La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey cups, among other honours.

Modric formed one of the greatest-ever midfield trios alongside Toni Kroos and Casemiro during their time together. The Croatian and Kroos mainly focused on ball distribution and progression. Casemiro sat at the base of the midfield and was the destroyer. Despite his intensity decreasing gradually, Modric’s importance to the current Real Madrid squad remains the same.

Aged 38, the veteran midfielder has still been a mainstay in the first team this season. He has made 28 appearances across competitions, scoring once and providing six assists. Considering the regularity he is playing with, it makes sense for him to continue another season to test the waters.
