Punjab Kings are one of the franchises that have been competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the start of the league in 2008. Despite playing in 17 IPL season, Punjab have never won a single title so far. They have qualified for the finals only one time during the 2014 season where they faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but suffered a defeat.

Mohit Burma of Dabur, India, holds the largest share of the franchise, which is 46%. Businessman Ness Wadia and popular Bollywood actress Preity Zinta hold 23% each in the franchise. 

Apart from them, another businessman named Karan Paul holds the remaining 8% shares of the franchise. The multiple owners have helped the franchise in terms of star power, brand stability, and passion for the franchise over the years. Zinta has been the face of the franchise as she has been spotted multiple times supporting her team from the teams. She has also attended a lot of player auctions, which has shown her interest in the game.

Kings 11 Punjab have partnered with multiple brands over the years which has helped the franchise to be strong financially. Some of their principal sponsors are Jio, A23, BKT, Kent RO, Astral Pipes, and Hindware, while their title partner is Dream 11.

They have some official partners as well, which are Avon, Dazzler, Advance, and Verka. A few other brands that have partnered with Punjab Kings are Lava, Campa, and Timex. According to The Times of India, the net worth of the Punjab Kings is reportedly $68 million as of December 2024. However, it is worth noting that franchise’s valuations can change based on factors like brand value, team performance and revenue from different sources. Since PBKS have bought Shreyas Iyer for the 2025 edition of IPL, they can see a stride in their brand value as Iyer is one of the biggest faces of Indian cricket currently.

Performance Stats under KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited

Punjab Kings have been playing under KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited since the start of the league in 2008. The franchise have produced multiple thrilling matches over the years but have failed to get their hands on the title even once. From 2008 to 2024, PBKS have played only one final during the 2014 season against the three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They had a great chance to win the IPL title for the first time but the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise were better than the Preity Zinta’s Punjab Kings. 

Since then, the owners of the franchise have been trying hard to make their team strong but have been failed every time. However, this time, the franchise have changed the entire core of the squad and have signed multiple new faces to claim their maiden IPL title. Their most expensive purchase was Shreyas Iyer for Rs. 22 crore who won the 2024 season with KKR.

Team had the same PBKS owner since 2008, KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited. However, things weren’t smooth between the owners of PBKS during this 17-year period. As mentioned, the owners are Mohit Burma, Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul. And still, the shares are divided between these four personalities. 

There were reports of some disputes between owner of Punjab Kings Zinta and Mohit Burman over share sales. Despite the disputes, the owners have stayed united and have been running the franchise amazingly. 

Controversies and Legal Challenges

Just like a few other franchises, Punjab Kings have also been surrounded by multiple controversies and legal challenges. In 2011, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) terminated Punjab Kings’ contract over an alleged agreement violation. However, the team decided to take legal action, and the decision ruled in the franchise’s favor, and they were reinstated after Rs. 1 crore fine. Apart from that, the franchise also faced a controversy regarding the co-owners Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia.

In 2014, Zinta accused Ness of molestation during a match at the Wankhdede Stadium in Mumbai. The controversy continued for four years before Zinta took her complaint back and the issue was resolved internally. Zinta had a dispute with another co-owner of the franchise, Mohit Burman, over share sales issues.

It was reported that Mohit wanted to sell some part of his shares to a third party, but Zinta wanted the shares to be shared with the current offers first. However, there has been no news of the dispute for some time, and it looks like the issue has been sorted out.
