PSG vs Brest Preview

  • Tournament: Ligue 1
  • Date: 14 September, 2024
  • Kick-off time: 7:30 PM (GMT)
  • Venue: Parc des Princes

With international football now behind us, the French Ligue 1 resumes this weekend, and we have PSG vs Brest on our hands at the Parc des Princes on Saturday. Having won all three of their top-flight matches so far, the Parisians have begun the new season on a positive note and will be looking to continue that run here too.

Despite losing one of their best players Kylian Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid this summer, the French champions haven’t missed a beat in the attack, netting 13 times. They began their campaign with a 4-1 away win to Le Havre before crushing Montpellier 6-0 in their first home game. PSG continued their incredible run against Lille on matchday three, this time picking up a 3-1 victory to make it nine points from a possible nine.

Unsurprisingly, they are at the top of the league table right now, two ahead of Marseille, Nantes, AS Monaco, and Lens, all of whom are tied at seven points each. By contrast, Brest are down in 12th with three points. The Pirates started their season with consecutive defeats to Marseille and Lens, before finally picking up their first set of points against St-Etienne, whom they beat 4-0.

Lucas Hernandez and Goncalo Ramos are out with injuries, whereas Warren Zaire-Emery, Vitinha and Desire Doue are doubtful, as PSG have quite a few selection headaches here. Randall Kolo Muani could start as the center-forward with Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele on the flanks. Senny Mayulu could get a start in midfield once again.

By contrast, the Pirates have a much better health record right now and don’t have any injury concerns at the moment. Hugo Magnetti returns to the squad after his suspension against Marseille, while many of their summer signings, who put the pen to paper on deadline day, will also be available, such as Mama Balde, Soumaila Coulibaly, Abdallah Sima and Massadio Haidara. However, Abdoulaye Ndiaye will have to sit out after receiving a red card in their last game.

Key Players To Watch in PSG vs Brest

Joao Neves (PSG)

The 19-year-old joined the Parisians from Benfica this summer and has registered four assists in two games so far. It’s been a good start to life in Paris for the Portuguese youngster, who has made a good early impression with his new side. Head coach Luis Enrique will be demanding more of the same as he returns from the international break.

Mahdi Camara (Brest)

Mahdi Camara is the only player in the Brest squad right now who has scored more than once. He was on target against Marseille in their big opening-day loss and then scored again in the 4-0 drubbing of St-Etienne, breaking the deadlock for the side inside the opening 10 minutes of the clash.
