PSG set an unwanted record after UCL exit against Dortmund

Mbappe’s PSG set an unwanted record in UCL books after their exit against Dortmund in the semifinals as they failed to score despite taking 30 shots on goal.

PSG set an unwanted record as they fail in the UCL yet again:

Ever since PSG was taken over, one of the biggest aspirations of the club has been to win the UEFA Champions League. However, the Parisians were dealt yet another heartbreak in the UCL as the club lost to BVB Dortmund over the course of the two legged semifinal and were eliminated. However, after their exit, PSG set an unwanted record which will further pain fans of the club across the world.

In PSG’s defeat to Dortmund in the second leg of the semifinal tie, the Kylian Mbappe led club took 30 shots without scoring, a record high tally (since 2003-04) in an UCL knockout stage match. While PSG set an unwanted record of taking the most shots without scoring, they also made another record as they hit the woodwork four times in the game which is also the highest tally in the knockout stage. These records will certainly haunt the clubs and fans as the Parisians also gathered a shocking 3.22xG despite not scoring even once.

PSG humbled by Dortmund in the UCL:

In Marco Reus’ last season at Dortmund, the club managed to reach the UCL final after defeating PSG in the semifinals. While PSG were considered as the favorites to win the semifinal battle between the two clubs, the Yellow Wall was resilient and managed to win both legs of the tie with a 1-0 margin and win the fixture 2-0 on aggregate. A goal from experienced campaigner Mats Hummels ensured that Dortmund took the lead in the second leg of the tie in Paris and doubled their lead on aggregate overall.

While PSG came quite close to scoring at home, Dortmund managed to leave both ties unscathed as PSG set an unwanted record of hitting the woodwork an astonishing four times in the second leg and two times in the first leg without scoring. French striker Kylian Mbappe will certainly rue the opportunity as speculations regarding his future away from PSG get stronger with the summer transfer window approaching.
