PSG to move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe
French giants Paris Saint-Germain have put behind the disappointment of Kylian Mbappe’s departure as they look forward to the 2024-25 season. Still, one of the favourites to win the Champions League, Ligue 1, and the Coup de France, PSG are now turning their attention to the future as they target Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian is in hot water with Napoli and a reported deal is on its way which could soon see him join Luis Enrique’s side.
Victor Osimhen to PSG?
According to reports from Sky Sports in Italy and the UK, Osimhen is the perfect replacement for Mbappe who comes with a winning mentality. Osimhen was at the center of Napoli’s success in Serie A in the 2022-23 season when they went on to win the Scudetto. While no formal bid has yet been sent, it is expected that Napoli could be open to sell if they land Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in another deal during the transfer window.
Osimhen’s age comes as a big factor in the investment as he is just 25 and still has a big career ahead of him. So far in his brief career he has scored 114 goals in 223 matches and has previously played in France for Lille between 2019 and 2021 before joining the Italian side. In three seasons with Napoli, he has scored 76 goals with 65 coming in Serie A during that period. He has been highly successful in helping Napoli get back to the top of Italian football since joining in 2021.
Lukaku to Napoli done deal?
As things stand, before sanctioning the move for Osimhen to join the French side, Napoli will look to sign a replacement. Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku who previously played for new manager Antonio Conte during his Inter Milan days is reportedly close to signing. Lukaku joining the club will help Napoli facilitate the sale of Osimhen to PSG as they will have a proven backup in place.
If the deal for Lukaku goes forward, it will be an interesting signing for Napoli as Lukaku had previously stated that he won’t join any other Italian side. However, having spent last season on loan at AS Roma, it looks like he will join his third Italian side in the last three seasons, having also spent a season on loan at Inter before playing in the capital city.
As things stand, Osimhen deals remain a priority for PSG before looking for other options.
