Premier League Top Scorers: Latest Golden Boot Standings After GW 17
Gameweek 17 of the English Premier League 2023/24 season saw top teams going head-to-head against each other with world-class forwards taking charge and scoring goals for their respective teams, battling each other out on an individual level to get their hands on the prestigious Golden Boot.
As of Gameweek 17, Manchester City’s goal machine, Erling Haaland still leads the race with 14 goals, even after missing out on the previous two game weeks due to injury issues. Following Haaland is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah who also failed to score in the previous two game weeks and has 11 goals to his name.
Following Haaland and Salah in the race are West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son with 10 goals apiece. Son failed to register a goal in Tottenham’s 2-0 away win over Nottingham Forest while Bowen scored West Ham’s third in their triumphing 3-0 win against Wolves at the London stadium.
The Ollie Watkins Show
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have undoubtedly been in their best form this season, winning 12 of their 17 games this season so far, earning them the third spot in the table. They have been playing some mesmerizing football this season and the center of attention is none other than the English forward, Ollie Watkins who has been in great goal-scoring form this season, having scored 9 goals for the Birmingham side.
Watkins has scored some great and match-winning goals for Villa this season, the latest of them coming in a comeback against Brentford at the Gtech stadium over the weekend. Watkins scored an 85th-minute winner, earning three points for Unai Emery’s side.
Ollie Watkins is currently tied with Bournemouth’s Dominik Solanke in terms of goals for the Golden Boot race who has been in some goal-scoring form of his own. Solanke has scored against big clubs sitting in the top half of the table like Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Brighton. Both forwards would be looking forward to adding to their tally in coming Gameweeks, considering the form and the confidence they have been in as of late.
