Premier League: List of Important Matches this Weekend
The 2023-2024 Premier League campaign is approaching its conclusion as only a selected number of games are remaining to be played to settle the honours for this season. As the title race heats up at the top of the table among Liverpool, Arsenal, and Man City; Man United look to make an effort towards the Champions League birth as they follow Aston Villa and Tottenham Spurs. On the other hand, Everton finds themselves engraved in the relegation battle.
Man United vs Liverpool to clash in a high-octane Premier League game
Premier League delivered an astounding match when Man United went to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea. Despite leading 2-3 in the closing stages of the match, United went on to lose the match by a scoreline of 4-3. The loss would be a tough one for Erik ten Hag’s side to take as it further dented their hopes for the Champions League birth.
On the other hand, Liverpool managed to keep hold of their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a thumping 3-1 win over relegation-bound Sheffield United. The Reds will travel to the Old Trafford to take on Man United in their next league outing. A win for them could help them grab a major initiative in their chase for the Premier League title this season.
Everton’s grilled in relegation battle as they face an up-spirited Burnley
The Sean Dyche men are without a win in their last 13 outings in the Premier League. With each passing game, pressure keeps mounting on him to deliver a positive result. Also, the Toffees have been deducted six points due to FFP breaches. With not much time remaining before the end of the season, Everton needs to pick up points at any cost to get themselves clear of the relegation battle as soon as possible.
Sean Dyche’s previous team Burnley would visit Goodison Park to play Everton in what promises to be a six-pointer grab-and-smash in the relegation fight for both teams. Dyche would love to get a win over his former club after the circumstances in which he was sacked at Burnley. But, he would be more aware of the importance of the win for Everton to keep their Premier League status for next season.
The Champions League qualification saga: Aston Villa takes on Brentford and Tottenham faces Nottingham Forest
Aston Villa’s impressive performance against midlands-rival Wolves was short-lived as they came crashing down against Man City in a 4-1 loss at Etihad. They would be eyeing a solid three points against Brentford in front of their home crowd on Saturday, April 6, this weekend. Unai Emery would be aware that Thomas Frank’s Brentford are a tricky side to play against, and Villa must come out of the blocks quickly.
Tottenham Hotspur will be taking on the in-form Nottingham Forest in North London this weekend. Spurs are currently sitting in the fifth spot in the Premier League table with 57 points to their name. A fifth-position finish in the league could prove to be enough for a Champions League qualification for the next season as things stand. Ange Postecoglou’s side is currently 9 points ahead of Man United but with eight games to go things can change dramatically.
