Premier League Clubs Offered Shock Chance to Sign James Rodriguez for Free
Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have been allowed to sign former Premier League star James Rodriguez on a free transfer this summer.
The 33-year-old Colombian attacker who recently finished his Copa America campaign with Colombia is keen to return to Europe and has a particular interest in the Premier League.
Rodriguez who has just parted ways with Brazilian side Sao Paulo a year early has previously played in the Premier League during the 2021/22 season under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton.
Despite being hampered by a calf injury he made 26 appearances and also scored six goals and provided four assists.
Interest from Multiple Clubs
According to TBR Football, intermediaries representing Rodriguez have reached out to several Premier League clubs including Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The clubs have been informed of Rodriguez’s availability and his desire to return to England.
Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa have already been active in the transfer market welcoming eight new signings. Nottingham Forest managed by Nuno Espirito Santo have also strengthened their squad with notable additions such as Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic. Both clubs could see Rodriguez as a valuable addition to their rosters.
Rodriguez’s representatives believe the midfielder still has much to offer and could potentially improve on his previous stint in the Premier League.
Additionally, Sevilla in Spain have shown interest and there is a possibility of a move to Italy to join Como where former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has moved recently and will now play under the guidance of head coach Cesc Fabregas.
Potential Fits for James Rodriguez
While Aston Villa recently loaned Philippe Coutinho to Vasco da Gama and adding another experienced playmaker like Rodriguez could be surprising. However, Emery has a reputation for transforming players and might relish the challenge.
On the other hand, Nottingham Forest might see Rodriguez as a valuable backup for Morgan Gibbs-White throughout the season. The Colombian superstar’s experience and skill could provide depth and creativity to Forest’s attacking options.
As the transfer window progresses it remains to be seen if either club will take the plunge and bring James Rodriguez back to the Premier League.
