Portuguese centre-back Ruben Semedo arrested after partner complaints of abuse
Ruben Semedo, who made his debut for the Portuguese international team in the year 2020 was arrested in the early hours of Sunday by the PSP of Vila France de Xira. He was accused of having attacked his partner and kidnapped her at home.

The news was reported by a Portuguese media outlet and contextualized by the PSP in a statement, but without mentioning the name of the detainee. It was reported that PSP of Vila Franca de Xira received a complaint from his partner. The Centre-back’s partner managed to get out and went to the police station to file a complaint, showing signs of aggression.
The Police in a statement said, “On the night of December 28, a 30-year-old woman was assaulted and threatened by her partner, and was subsequently held at the suspectβs residence for a few hours until she was able to go to a PSP Police Station, where she filed a complaint.” It also added that the victim had several bruises, so emergency services were called and she received hospital treatment.
He currently plays for Al Khor in Qatar and was arrested several times in Spain during his time as a player for Villareal. He was also accused of several crimes including murder charges, which were later dropped. During his time in Greece, with Olympiakos, he again had problems with the law. He was accused of raping a minor but was later acquitted due to lack of evidence.
